For over 25 years, I lived the classic desk-bound life - long hours, high stress, and the constant struggle to balance work, family, and my own health goals. I told myself I was “too busy” to prioritize fitness, sleep and nutrition, even though deep down, I knew better. Over time, the cracks in my health started to show: creeping weight gain, troubling blood markers and the realization that my go-go-go lifestyle was taking its toll.

Then came perimenopause, and things really went off the rails - brain fog, joint pain, restless nights. Yet, every time I sought medical advice, the answers were always the same: medication or surgery. No one asked about my lifestyle—how I was eating, sleeping, or moving. It was a wake-up call.

Determined to take control, I dove deep into learning about health, nutrition, and fitness. What I discovered was both empowering and frustrating: small, strategic changes can make a huge difference, but I also realized a frustrating truth—the medical system isn’t built to hep us get ahead of problems - it just reacts to them.

That realization sparked something in me. I started sharing what I’d learned, blending my knack for breaking down complex topics with a drive to help others take charge of their health. (Fun fact: In a previous life, I wrote voter guides to simplify California ballots—so I’ve always loved the challenge of making tough concepts easy and approachable!)

That’s why Jennee and I created Part Time Health: to cut through the noise and help busy people take control of their well-being in a way that actually fits their lives. Because getting healthier doesn’t have to be a full-time job—it just has to be smarter.

Let’s make this simple, sustainable, and yes, even fun.

After 20 years in a profession that kept me tied to my desk—and three kids later—I finally leaned into understanding how to build the health and wellbeing I had always put off for tomorrow.

It started with unexplained panic attacks. My doctor prescribed medication and suggested meditation, but while I valued the power of mindfulness, it didn’t feel like the full answer. Around the same time, I sought an MRI and physical therapy for an old hip injury. The symptoms seemed unrelated—until I stumbled upon a list of common perimenopause symptoms. Suddenly, everything clicked. A laundry list of health issues I had been experiencing weren’t random—they were connected. Yet none of my providers had even considered that my hormones might be at play. It was a disturbing realization: I had trusted my doctors to tell me what was wrong, but instead, I needed to listen to my body and bring them the evidence to dig deeper.

When I started addressing my hormone shifts with HRT, some of my symptoms subsided within days. That was my aha moment—undeniable proof that I was on the right path. But it also sparked a bigger realization: What else in my life had I been looking at from the wrong angle? If small shifts in my hormones could make such a profound difference, where else could I ask better questions and investigate further?

One of my biggest discoveries was with exercise. I had spent years wondering why workouts made me feel worse instead of giving me the endorphin rush everyone else seemed to experience. I finally stopped forcing myself into fitness trends that weren’t working and started looking deeper. That’s when I realized my vestibular system was playing a key role—certain types of exercise were overstimulating it, leaving me feeling drained instead of energized. When I adapted my movement to what actually worked for my body, everything changed. Just like with my hormones, the answer wasn’t to push harder—it was to listen closer.

Alix and I met at a time when we were both navigating similar health struggles, and we realized something important: it’s never too early or too late to take your wellbeing into your own hands. But the ability to do that starts with knowledge—understanding how your body works, how to advocate for yourself in medical settings, and how to make small, impactful changes that fit into real life.

That realization inspired us to build Part Time Health. What started as a spark of an idea grew from our shared passion for helping others cut through the overwhelming noise of health advice. We believe wellbeing is for everyone—not just those in crisis. And it doesn’t require an extreme commitment or a complete life reset. By dedicating part-time focus to understanding your body’s needs, you can create a personal formula for wellbeing that fits seamlessly into your life.

My wellbeing now helps me show up for my family—with energy, presence, and joy—and for my work—with focus, purpose, and creativity. And that’s what I want for everyone—to feel empowered, informed, and in control of their own health.
